If multiple calls come in at once, the fire station is left empty, with no one to answer the phones, no one to answer radio calls from firefighters and no one in the station to respond to other calls for emergencies. When he station is left empty, it is up to off duty firefighters to come in and man the station. In 2007, the fire station was left empty at least 165 times.
